Once fine show is in agony.

When Sweet Magnolias premiered on Netflix in 2020, fans were sure that the streaming giant had finally found a winning formula for its melodrama shows, as the great Virgin River had debuted just a year earlier. But even though the first season of a melodrama following three lifelong friends proved to be a huge hit for the streaming service, the same can't be said for the second or third installments.

While the second season of Sweet Magnolias was lambasted for poor writing, troubling character development, and bad acting, it wasn't until Season 3, which arrived on the streaming service early last month, that fans became certain the show was in dire need of a cancellation.

A steep decline in quality

While the first season perfectly introduced fans to a trio of main characters, subsequent seasons failed to capitalize on its success, ruining Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue with each new episode. Instead of portraying the trio as strong and independent women, the writers turned them into soap opera caricatures in the third season, which really angered the fans.

In addition, the overall quality of the show plummeted in the final season, with the acting becoming so atrocious that fans openly shared their lifehacks on how to watch the season without losing their minds.

'You could do what I did, skipped 10 secs every time they said something cheesy, I couldn’t stand. I was done in two days,' a fan said.

Is Season 4 even a possibility?

Given how disastrous Season 3 was, it's no wonder that Netflix hasn't officially addressed the future of the show, but fans themselves are pretty sure that the melodrama won't be returning, as the potential next season could hurt the show even more than the last.

However, some viewers are still trying to keep themselves informed for the possible Season 4, sharing an interesting way to skip all the unnecessary drama of the third season.

'Honestly, I skipped the middle episodes. I watched the first two and the last two. So, if they come back for a fourth season, I'll have the highlights but have skipped some of the more painful parts,' a fan revealed.
