Is Bridgerton Season 3 Off the 2023 Calendar? Julia Quinn's Reaction Sparks Speculation
It looks like the popular show's new season won't be premiering this year.
Netflix's Bridgerton is undoubtedly one of the most popular shows right now, as this adaptation of Julia Quinn's romantic novels set in the fictional 19th-century Regency era broke into the mainstream with its first season and later cemented itself as a must-watch project with a stellar second season and the hit spin-off, Queen Charlotte.
However, it would appear that the third season of the romantic drama might take quite some time to finally arrive on streaming due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes disrupting the upcoming release.
Before the strikes began, Netflix's producers planned to release Bridgerton Season 3 sometime in late 2023, but after both the writers and the actors refused to even promote the show, it seems that Netflix made the difficult decision to put off the release of the next season until 2024. However, Netflix hasn't officially announced the delay yet, and all the controversy and speculation has been caused by what Quinn said in an interview.
When the author was asked when the third season would premiere, she replied that she had no idea, making it clear that Netflix had changed the previously agreed-upon date. However, fans seem to be not too disappointed about the delay, as most of them have already lost interest in the upcoming show due to the stagnant PR campaign.
'I've lost interest with the new season. Like this constant drought is so bad and I know the strikes are going on but the Bridgerton account could at least drop a couple of stills here and there or a clip to keep people engaged. Even if they push the release date to 2024, I don't think most people would mind if they gave us some news or pics of the new season throughout the months,' a fan said.
Now, the PR campaign is effectively on pause as the show's actors can't promote it because of the SAG rules. However, some fans have pointed out that Netflix could have done more on Bridgerton's Instagram page and the fact that nothing is happening on there has made many fans indifferent about the possible delay in the new season's release.
'I believe the Bridgerton account can still post photos/clips as long as they were taken before the strike. The only thing is that actors can't repost those images or talk about the show, which would be considered promotion,' another fan noted.
