Fans are wondering how much money the iconic singer made from her time on the show.

Every season, the producers of American Idol invite some big-name stars and celebrities to guest judge the show alongside Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. And in Season 21, It was Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran who were given the honour. Both enjoyed seeing the contestants cover their songs and putting on performances of their own.

The episode turned out great, and naturally, fans couldn't help but wonder how much money Alanis would have been paid for appearing on American Idol.

With a long career that includes numerous sold-out tours and 75 million records sold worldwide, Alanis Morissette has amassed a substantial net worth of $60 million. She hardly needs to appear on reality shows to make a living. Given her appreciable wealth and status, it is clear that American Idol producers would have approached her with caution and would have made her an offer she couldn't refuse.

Although the actual figure has never been made public, an educated guess can be made based on the fact that American Idol judges have earned between $7 million and $12 million in recent years.

Thus, Alanis' remuneration would probably have fallen within that range, as that would have been an amount commensurate with her iconic status in the music industry.

But then again, the show's staff judges still make a lot more money per season, with Katy Perry reportedly earning a cool $35 million per episode and Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie making $12 million and $10 million per episode, respectively. With these kinds of paychecks on offer, it's no wonder so many stars want to appear as judges on American Idol: no other show in the business offers judges so much!

And yet, fans keep throwing shade at American Idol for wasting so much money on celebrity judges while failing to adequately promote the contestants.

'Still in shock how ABC's Idol can pull Alanis, Ed, and the king of England (on his coronation week nonetheless) but can't get a winner on the charts,' a fan pointed out.
