The hit show has its share of awful characters.

Netflix's Virgin River is one of the most popular melodramas on the air today, as the story of the troubled LA nurse Mel who moves to a quiet small town to find love and peace, has resonated with millions of viewers across the US.

Indeed, Virgin River bears a striking resemblance to daytime soaps, yet some people find this cosy vibe appealing and choose to watch and rewatch the show despite some underdeveloped storylines.

While the story's main characters, Mel and Jack, are well-written and skillfully portrayed, some supporting characters, such as Hope and Charmaine, do not share these qualities. They are often described as the most annoying and tedious characters in Virgin River. However, they are not the only ones that fans of Virgin River find unbearable. There is one particular character whose scenes fans often skip.

The character in question is Dan Brady, who served with Jack in the Marines and is struggling to adjust to life after the military. With such a compelling backstory, fans expected Brady to become a truly compelling character. However, while Jack's military history greatly contributed to his story, Brady did not receive the same attention from the writers, making him seem more like a prop than a real person.

'Just rewatching and I really don't like Brady. The things that come out of his mouth are so juvenile. I just can't,' a fan said.

Poor writing and the failure to portray Brady as a mature character aren't the only reasons people dislike him; his unexpected romance with Brie also did not sit well with fans. Brie is one of the most complex and interesting characters on the show, so pairing her with someone like Brady was a major letdown to many of her fans.

'Especially don't like him with Brie. There was no build up to that relationship. No tension, no build up, no nothing,' another fan argued.

Virgin River Season 5 is scheduled to debut on Netflix on 7 September 2023.
