Here's Why The CW's All American Fans Dislike Season 5 So Much
The last season was a big disappointment.
The CW is going through one of the toughest times of its entire existence, as new management decided to pull the plug on numerous hit shows without creating any new and exciting projects. Because of this, fans are left with almost nothing to watch on The CW, with the only saving grace being All American, which has been a huge hit for the network since it premiered in 2018.
However, the recently released Season 5 had nothing to offer, especially when compared to the previous seasons of the sports drama.
When the show first started, the audience was incredibly invested in the story of an American football player struggling with identity issues, but each new season made the show look more like a soap opera than a serious drama. And in fact, fans didn't mind that at all, as the series' ratings steadily increased year after year.
And now it seems that Season 5 failed to cement the success of the previous installments, and here's why.

Lack of Coherence
All American is a very long show, and the recent seasons had as many as 20 episodes. But it looks like the writers themselves forgot how important it is to make the narrative coherent and relatable for fans to actually watch the whole season from start to finish. Sadly, Season 5 felt like an overlong and uninspired hodgepodge of trite storylines and stagnant character development.
Instead of leaning into the melodrama genre for good, the writers decided to keep up appearances and make All American look like a respectable drama series. But the fact that it wasn't actually angered and alienated many fans from their once-favorite show.
Nothing to Remember
Still, this isn't the biggest problem with Season 5, as fans have expressed their bewilderment at how forgettable All American has become, with none of Season 5's storylines feeling fresh or original.
'Billy's death was ridiculously bad; I won't go into it. Speaking of which, in its defense, it was the only defining moment in the season; it was otherwise lacking these moments and so there weren't many "landmarks,"' a disappointed fan said. 'Maybe that's just a me thing but it's like the season was on autopilot throughout, threw in Billy's death as a twist, then threw in Patience's stabbing as another.'
