Arrowhead is in the dark, too—blindsided, offering no timeline, and bracing for the fallout.

If you were convinced Helldivers 2 was secretly rigged by High Command, Arrowhead just took a shovel to that theory. The studio says Major Orders aren't pre-written wins or losses. No puppet strings, no hidden script — just chaos, math, and the whims of millions of trigger-happy players.

No, Major Orders aren't pre-scripted

Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani jumped into the game's official Discord and addressed the long-running fan theory that Major Orders — those big, timed, community-wide objectives that push the Galactic War map — are fixed from the start. He says they're not. The team plans for different outcomes because even they don't know which way players will go.

"Most stuff in the game [dungeon master] JOEL needs to plan for multiple outcomes as we don't know what the heck you folks will do."

That speculation has been floating around since the game launched last year, but Jorjani framed it pretty plainly: the war is reactive. The studio follows where players push, not the other way around.

About that Hive World loss

Players recently ate it on a Major Order tied to a Hive World — the bugs' home turf — which reignited the "it was rigged" chorus. Jorjani says the outcome wasn't predetermined. Things are open-ended, at least from where he sits. Yes, the team can nudge difficulty up or down to influence how hard a particular push feels, but that isn't the same as predetermining the result. And apparently their internal predictions miss the mark a lot anyway.

Where this is all headed

The other interesting bit: Arrowhead is thinking long term. Jorjani name-checked RuneScape when describing what they want Helldivers 2 to become — basically a forever game with no immediate plans for a direct Helldivers 3. On the crossover front, a Fortnite team-up isn't on the to-do list right now. He didn't rule it out entirely, and he did tip the hat to Fortnite being, you know, massive, but it's not a current priority.

  • Major Orders aren't fixed in advance; outcomes aren't scripted.
  • Arrowhead's "dungeon master" JOEL plans for multiple possible results because player behavior is unpredictable.
  • The recent Hive World defeat wasn't preordained; the studio says the war stays open-ended.
  • Developers can tweak difficulty to steer, but they can't force the finish — and their guesses are often wrong anyway.
  • Arrowhead wants Helldivers 2 to be a long-haul live game, RuneScape-style, with no direct threequel on the horizon.
  • A Fortnite crossover isn't a focus right now, though the door isn't closed.

Inside baseball, but worth noting: the fact there's a literal "dungeon master" guiding the Galactic War in real time does explain why the map can feel alive one week and unhinged the next. It's improv with orbital strikes.
