Heels Ending on a Cliffhanger Was the Creators' Fault All Along?
The canceled show was a train wreck all the way through.
It's no secret that a lot of people love Stephen Amell, as his eight-season run on The CW's Arrow proved him to be one of the best actors on television, which is why his fans were more than excited to see what projects the actor would pursue after the superhero show was canceled.
And he didn't waste a second, signing on to star in Starz's buzzy new show Heels, which centers on a feud between members of the wrestling clan.
The show's first season was a hit with viewers, and fans of the actor were sure that Amell had added another hit show to his already impressive resume. However, that idea came to a crushing end after the end of Heels' second season, when the show was surprisingly canceled by Starz.
The Outrage
Naturally, fans were quite angry at the network for canceling the promising show so early, especially considering the fact that Season 2 ended on a massive cliffhanger. The fandom began bombarding Starz with pleas to revive the show, while supporting Amell and series creator Stephen Waldron to find Heels a home on another platform, preferably Netflix or Max.
However, there's no denying that Starz's decision to cancel the show was entirely justified, as low ratings and poor reviews have plagued Heels since its first season. The second season began to resemble a melodrama even more than before, and given the high production costs, Starz had no choice but to pull the plug on the show.
Cliffhanger Not Starz's Fault
While fans were quick to accuse the network executives of ruining the show with an unresolved cliffhanger, it's actually Waldron's fault that viewers were left with no resolution at the end. As the show's creator, he was well aware of its ratings problems, but he still decided to end a season on a cliffhanger, probably hoping that Starz would renew the series just because of it.
Unfortunately, the producers had a different idea and the fans became the real victims of the whole situation. All in all, it looks like the fans are blaming Starz for no reason, as Waldron is the one to blame for a terrible cliffhanger.
