Fans wonder if the long-standing rumor is true.

While Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, is currently in the midst of a scandal regarding his new series, Max's The Idol, which has been described as exploitative towards women, fans are still wondering about the star's past romantic affairs. Abel's dating life has always been quite busy: the singer has been romantically linked to people like Bella Hadid, Selena Gomez, and even Angelina Jolie.

However, it is his rumored affair with Ariana Grande that has always been the main interest of millions of fans. But are these rumors true?

Needless to say, neither The Weeknd nor Grande have ever commented on the rumors of their dating, let alone confirmed them. However, fans can't help but find evidence to support the theory, as two singers have not only collaborated three times, but also seem to reference each other frequently in songs.

Fans have often suggested that Grande's smash hit 'One Last Time,' which is about the singer screwing up her romance, is actually about her screwing up her romance with Abel. Although this theory is not supported by any lyrics or actual facts, for some reason, fans are very certain that their interpretation of the song's deeper meaning is correct.

Additionally, The Weeknd's 2021 track 'I Hear You're Married' is believed to be a reference to Grande, as the singer married her husband, Dalton Gomez, around that time. In the song, Abel laments letting go of his ex-lover and urges her to leave her husband and be with him. Although Grande is not directly mentioned in the song, the theory that the two dated at some point became even more popular in 2021.

In any case, both stars are enjoying their lives at the moment, as Grande is still happily married to her husband and Abel is dating Simi Khadra, a DJ and entrepreneur. Both artists have always been pretty open about their romantic relationships, and there seems to be no apparent reason as to why they would keep their affair a secret — so the rumor is nothing but a rumor, after all.

Season 1 of The Weeknd's most recent project, The Idol, will arrive on HBO on June 4, 2023.
