Gwyneth Paltrow Hasn’t Heard of the $410 Million Hit Timothée Chalamet Just Watched
During a Vogue promo for their Safdie-directed Marty Supreme, Gwyneth Paltrow left Timothée Chalamet stunned by admitting she’d never heard of Tron: Legacy — the 2010 blockbuster that tore up the box office.
File this under: celebrity small talk that turns into a plot twist. During a Vogue promo chat for their next movie together, Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothee Chalamet somehow ended up on the topic of Tron. Yes, that Tron. And then it got weird.
Gwyneth has never heard of Tron: Legacy. Seriously.
Chalamet mentioned he had just watched the mega-profitable 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy (you know, the one that followed up the 1982 original and came with that thunderous Daft Punk score). Paltrow responded with:
"Wow. Never heard of it."
Chalamet, being a man of taste, immediately praised the Daft Punk soundtrack and the two swapped music recommendations. Hard pivot from neon light cycles to record-store talk, but I respect the range.
Their music chat: Go-Go's, MJ, D'Angelo, and a cameo from Weyes Blood
Chalamet asked Paltrow about the first album she ever bought. Her pick: the Go-Go's debut, Beauty and the Beat — the one with 'Our Lips Are Sealed' that topped the Billboard charts. They joked about her owning a Michael Jackson record at one point, which, yes, pretty much spotlighted their age gap in the most polite way possible.
As for Timothee's car karaoke song, he name-checked 'Lady' by D'Angelo. Elite choice. He also asked if Paltrow knew Weyes Blood, which she does — the Americana singer actually performs in their film and contributes background vocals to its music. Sneaky cool detail.

Meanwhile, the Tron situation is... not great
That Paltrow moment hits a little harder given where the franchise landed lately. Tron: Ares face-planted with both critics and audiences. Per the trade chatter at the time, the movie reportedly cost about $220 million to make and managed roughly $142 million at the global box office, according to Box Office Mojo. Deadline also floated a projection around $160 million. Either way you slice those numbers, on that budget, the math is brutal.
Putting Jared Leto in the lead didn’t steady the ship. His name does not carry the box office weight it used to, and his reputation for intense method-y behavior has long been a talking point among collaborators. Tough look for a series that once felt like a tech showcase with style to spare — say what you will about Legacy, but it delivered a high-gloss aesthetic and an all-timer Daft Punk score.
Maybe the grid will reboot clean one day. If it does, here’s hoping Gwyneth will have at least heard of that one.
Where to watch and when
Tron: Legacy is streaming on Disney+ in the US. Marty Supreme hits US theaters on December 25, 2025.
