The iconic singer supports the controversial show.

Without a doubt, HBO's The Idol is the most hyped project of the summer, but for all the wrong reasons. While viewers were initially excited to see what Sam Levinson and The Weeknd had in store for them, the end result proved to be a real hot mess, with subpar writing, acting, and insane amounts of violence and nudity.

Needless to say, fans hated the show, with some even trying to get the co-creators fired over it, arguing that their project promoted violence and predatory behavior towards women.

So it wasn't a surprise that HBO decided to cancel The Idol after its first season, even though the ratings were quite strong during the series' initial run. It looks like the network simply decided to distance itself from Levinson and agree with the general public that the show proved to be a massive disappointment.

However, some celebrities seem to be pretty bummed about the cancellation.

Support from an unlikely source

When news of The Idol's cancellation broke, singer and Elon Musk's ex-wife Grimes expressed her dissatisfaction with the network's decision, arguing that the series could have been much better with a second season exploring Lily Rose Depp's character Jocelyn much more deeply than the first installment ever did.

And while Grimes' statement may sound controversial considering how much people hate The Idol, some fans actually agreed with the singer. The fans say the show could have improved if given another chance, and the fact that HBO backed out after the initial controversy is a huge shame.

'I wish they had some more time or different pacing to let some of the ideas breathe, but I really liked where the show was going,' a fan commented.

Grimes could save the show herself

While some people agreed with the singer's stance on the matter, others wondered why Grimes couldn't use her connection to Elon Musk to revive the show herself, ensuring a decent conclusion for Jocelyn's arc.

'It always baffles me that billionaires waste money in yachts and gold plated Ferraris when with a reasonable amount of money, they could revive great TV shows for at least a proper finale,' another fan pointed out.
