Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Needs to Kill Off Teddy to Save the Show
It's time for Teddy to go.
Though it's hard to imagine, Shonda Rhimes' Grey's Anatomy has been on the air for nearly two decades. Sadly, it looks like the show's age is starting to alienate a lot of viewers who aren't as invested in following the lives and careers of new doctors, as most of the original cast is no longer on the series.
What's even worse, some fans claim that, for a show known for its unusual plot twists and sudden character deaths, Grey's Anatomy has begun to feel a bit safe and stale in recent years, resembling a soap more than ever before.
In recent seasons, many doctors were suffering from serious illnesses, but none of them actually died, angering viewers who wanted to see the gruesomeness for which the show first became famous. So when long-time favorite Teddy Altman was seen going into cardiac arrest in the Season 19 finale, almost no one really worried about her, knowing full well that she would be saved in the upcoming Season 20.
Even though Teddy is an important character, the writers of Grey's Anatomy should kill her off for good in the upcoming season for one reason only — it will make a lot of viewers invest in the show again.
For many fans, it's just not fun to follow characters who are indestructible and seem to live forever. So if Teddy were to be killed off, the stakes would finally be raised, proving that no one from the main cast is safe from death.
Of course, Teddy's untimely death would be devastating because she has a loving husband and two children to take care of. But despite the heartbreaking factor, it's the whole future of Grey's Anatomy that is at risk. If the character stays alive, too many viewers will simply stop caring about the show altogether, bored by the lack of drama and plot twists.
On top of that, Teddy's storyline was not as exciting last season as it used to be because the writers stopped investing in her since she was already married. While a lot of people still love Teddy, she seems more like a prop than a compelling personality, so killing her off might be the best option to preserve her legacy as one of Grey's Anatomy's most beloved characters.
