Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is growing its cast, with newcomer Avar Jager joining — a move that hints the film may venture beyond the book.

Greta Gerwig is still stacking the deck for her first trip to Narnia, and the latest casting quietly hints at how she plans to stretch the book on screen.

The new name, and why it matters

Per What's On Netflix, relative newcomer Avar Jager has joined "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" as one of Polly's siblings. The role is currently labeled as:

"Polly's sister 3"

Here's the interesting wrinkle: in C.S. Lewis's 1955 novel, Polly's family exists but her sisters aren't explicitly called out. So, adding multiple sisters suggests Gerwig is fleshing out Polly's home life a bit. Don't expect a massive subplot, though — the report notes these sister roles are expected to be small.

Where the movie stands right now

Gerwig is directing from her own screenplay and — surprise — she has pulled together a very shiny ensemble already. Meryl Streep will voice Aslan. Emma Mackey is on board after working with Gerwig on "Barbie," and Streep previously teamed with her on "Little Women." Daniel Craig and Carey Mulligan are also in the mix. The adaptation is produced by Amy Pascal, Mark Gordon, and Vincent Sieber.

  • Director/Writer: Greta Gerwig
  • Cast (so far): Emma Mackey; Daniel Craig; Carey Mulligan; Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan; Avar Jager as one of Polly's sisters
  • Producers: Amy Pascal, Mark Gordon, Vincent Sieber
  • Release: November 26, 2026, with a theatrical rollout planned before it hits Netflix

A quick refresher on the last go-round

The first Narnia trilogy pulled in nearly $1.6 billion worldwide across three films: 2005's "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," 2008's "Prince Caspian," and 2010's "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader." That run starred William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes, Georgie Henley, Liam Neeson, Tilda Swinton, James McAvoy, Ben Barnes, Peter Dinklage, and Will Poulter.

Small casting update, but a revealing one. More to come as this thing keeps taking shape.
