Bluepoint Games has been radio silent since that reported God of War live-service project got axed earlier this year. Now there’s a small-but-telling ripple: the studio is hiring, and the language in those listings points to what they’re cooking next.
So… what are they making?
A new job posting for a senior combat designer spells it out: whatever Bluepoint is building involves third-person melee action. Not exactly a shocker for this team, but still, it’s our clearest hint so far.
"Solid understanding of combat systems and mechanics for third-person melee action experiences."
That’s the key line baked into the qualifications. It doesn’t confirm whether we’re looking at an original IP or a return to something familiar, but it narrows the lane.
Quick timeline and context
Back in January, multiple reports said Sony pulled the plug on a Kratos-adjacent, live-service game that Bluepoint had in development. That one stung, especially because the studio had already been in the God of War orbit: they built the God of War Collection on PS3 and contributed support on God of War Ragnarok. The setup made it seem like they were headed toward a new franchise entry before plans changed.
Why this tracks for Bluepoint
Third-person action is very much their home field. Their catalog is basically a greatest hits reel of rebuilding and remastering some of PlayStation’s most tactile, timing-heavy games:
- Demon’s Souls remake on PS5
- Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (the first trilogy remastered)
- Shadow of the Colossus rebuilt for PS4
- Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
- God of War Collection on PS3 (plus later support on Ragnarok)
New IP, classic revival, or a salvage job?
The listing doesn’t say if this is a brand-new world or a return to something we already know. Given the timing, it wouldn’t be wild if some systems or ideas from the shelved God of War project are getting reworked into whatever this is now. That would be more of a pivot than a total do-over, and it’s often how these things evolve.
When do we hear more?
Probably not soon. Job listings usually mean the project’s still staffing up, and Bluepoint tends to keep their heads down until they’re ready to show something. I’ll keep an eye on it.
Side note for the God of War crowd: Christopher Judge has been talking about how much Sunny Suljic has grown up since they started, putting it in, let’s say, very colorful terms. Feels about right if you watched Atreus level up in real time.
