Forget Penny & Leonard: Howard & Bernadette Are TBBT's Power Couple
Fans are more in love with Howard and Bernadette than any other couples on the show.
CBS' The Big Bang Theory started out with four geeks as its main characters, none of whom had any real experience with romantic relationships. That's why it was so exciting for viewers to see Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, and Raj come out of their shells and have affairs, with three of the main characters finding true love in the process.
Now that the series is over and we had plenty of time to contemplate the finale, some fans find it upsetting that Leonard and Penny were given much more screen time than the other pairings because these two were not really the biggest power couple on the show.
Sheldon and Amy were clearly the smartest and most talented pairing. But while their joint work on string theory was recognized with a Nobel Prize, some fans still claim that Howard and Bernadette were even more powerful in terms of their professional and personal growth.
'Howard had the best character arc of the show. He started out as a huge ass and ended as a respectable, renowned professional with a happy, healthy family,' a fan noted.
Howard was an engineer who made it to space on a NASA expedition, and Bernadette was a microbiologist with access to biological weapons. Some fans even joke that the two could have ended the whole thing if they wanted to — and isn't that a definition of a power couple?
'These two were a bad day away from being global supervillains,' a Redditor said.
While the two worked really well as a couple, many viewers still disliked Bernadette as a character. Fans argue that she became quite mean over the course of her arc and made Howard suffer a bit when she took full control of his personal and professional life.
'I didn't like how Bernadette made out she was the one who influenced Howard to go to space. She tried to stop him in the beginning,' another fan commented.
But even so, Howard and Bernadette shared a sweet love story and were quite interesting as solo characters. If the writers had decided to give them more space to develop, the two could have easily eclipsed the Leonard/Penny and Sheldon/Amy storylines — and it's quite possible that fans wouldn't mind them to!
