Fans Still Not Over Sweet Magnolias Season 3's Drop in Quality
The once-beloved show is now in ruins.
For its first two seasons, Sweet Magnolias was considered one of the best melodramas in Netflix's library, with millions of fans enjoying the cozy and dramatic story of three longtime friends in the small town of Serenity. Viewers loved the dynamic between the main trio, and since both acting and writing were of reasonable quality, many expected the third season to be just as great, possibly even beating Virgin River as Netflix's most popular melodrama.
However, as soon as Season 3 hit the streaming service, it became apparent that the writers had failed to improve the show. With the writing quality taking a significant turn for the worse, Sweet Magnolias began to feel like a cheap soap, and the sheer amount of unbelievable situations in the season led fans to name it the worst piece of television to premier this year.
The Fall from Grace
It's obvious that fans are bothered by the quality of Sweet Magnolias Season 3 for one reason only — how great the show was in its first two seasons. The fact that the writers decided to ruin already established characters with pathetic stories and boring lines made people angry because they were fully expecting the season to live up to the standards of the previous two.
In particular, viewers blame the writing team for using the same plot devices over and over again, making the show feel tedious and easily forgettable. That's totally not what anyone expected from the much anticipated Season 3.
'Yes, it's super cringey! The writing was overly sappy, storylines unrealistic, and the acting and direction was exaggerated,' a disappointed Redditor wrote. 'With the exception of Kathy coming to town, it all feels like regurgitated and tired storylines from S1, and S3 wrapped up the show like maybe they expected it may end this season.'
Needless to say, fans are not rallying for Sweet Magnolias to be renewed for a fourth season, as people don't want the once-beloved characters to get slaughtered again. It seems that Netflix has no choice but to cancel the show after such a spectacular failure.
