After months of uncertainty, Max has finally revealed that Sam Levinson and The Weeknd's troubled show The Idol has been canceled after Season 1, leaving fans' hopes for a better second installment unfulfilled.
However, people are still discussing how bad the drama's first season was, and wondering how the show could have been better if the creators hadn't decided to reshoot it from scratch after most of the filming was done. And unfortunately for The Weeknd, it seems that viewers are pretty sure that The Idol could have been a much more compelling show without him at all.
Although most of the hype surrounding The Idol was created because of The Weeknd's starring role, after watching the entire series, people are convinced that the singer actually ruined the promising project by using his authority as a producer and co-creator to change the original vision for the show and turn it into a pornographic fantasy.
How the Idol could've been better
According to most fans, the best thing about The Idol was Lily Rose Depp's performance as troubled pop star Jocelyn, as the actress really tried to show off all of her acting talent and skill. So people were quick to deduce that if The Weeknd's Tedros and the stupid cult plotline were removed from the show entirely and more screen time was given to Depp and Jennie from BLACKPINK, The Idol could have been saved.
It's Official: The Idol Season 2 Isn't Happening After All Even though a lot of viewers were critical of Jennie's acting, her fans are sure that with enough attention from the producers and a good acting coach, Jennie could have easily shined as the series' second lead.
'Jennie was one of the few things I looked forward to [in] the show lol. I hated the scenes she had with The Weeknd, I but I liked her chemistry with LRD's character, and I actually wish the story focused a bit more on the rise and fall of their friendship and how it affected their respective careers without having to use The Weeknd's cult as its plot device,' a fan wrote.
