Ewan McGregor Begs Disney To Bring Obi-Wan Back In Andor Season 3

Ewan McGregor isn't done with Obi-Wan just yet. The actor dropped a bombshell by saying he'd love to pop up in Andor season 3 — even if it completely breaks the timeline. "There's always a chance if Disney is listening," he teased, leaving fans buzzing about a possible return nobody expected.
Ewan McGregor finally binged Andor, fell hard for it, and is now lobbying Disney for a season 3 so he can swing Obi-Wan back into the mix. One small snag: the show is not expected to continue past season 2, and the Star Wars timeline is tight enough to squeak.
McGregor joins the party late, gets inspired
Speaking on stage at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto, McGregor said he missed Andor when it first dropped — he tends to avoid the buzzy thing until everyone stops buzzing — but once he hit play, he got it. He watched the first episode at home with his young son, realized what all the fuss was about, and then powered through the entire first season and the entire second season on his own because he couldn’t wait. His kid caught pieces of it; McGregor loved the whole thing.
The Obi-Wan idea (and the timeline headache)
That binge sparked a very Obi-Wan thought: the Obi-Wan Kenobi series happens not long before Andor, so maybe he could pop up in an Andor season 3. He admitted he got excited, then immediately remembered the reality check — Andor is not expected to come back, and pushing a third season forward would start bumping right up against A New Hope. Still, he floated the idea of a parallel, cross-over story that could run at the same time as Andor’s events and make room for Obi-Wan.
"There’s always a chance if Disney is listening — hypothetically, hypothetically. Come on, Disney."
Reality check from Tony Gilroy
And then there’s the creator. Last May, Tony Gilroy said he has no plans for a third season and doesn’t expect to return, noting he’s been living in this corner of the galaxy for roughly a decade between Rogue One and Andor. In other words: if there’s a season 3, it won’t be because he suddenly changed his mind.
Everyone keeps calling Andor the good Star Wars show
McGregor is far from alone here. The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal recently joked he was unforgivably late to the Andor party and called it maybe the best political thriller series ever. George R. R. Martin also singled Andor out as his highlight of the year, praising the grounded feel and nail-biting tension — qualities he thinks most other Star Wars shows are missing.
That goodwill is showing up on ballots too: after a critically acclaimed season 2, Andor landed 14 Emmy nominations, the third-most for any Star Wars series, trailing only The Mandalorian’s first two seasons.
What’s next in the galaxy
Whether or not McGregor’s wish comes true, the next stop on the Star Wars calendar is The Mandalorian & Grogu, hitting theaters on May 22, 2026.
