The ongoing season is a bit of an improvement but still a massive disappointment.

It's no secret that FX's American Horror Story has seen better days. The show's quality has been on a steady decline since Season 6, with each new installment leaving fans questioning why Ryan Murphy continues to produce the show. Seasons 10 and 11 proved to be the worst AHS chapters yet.

However, with the latest installment, it seemed like Murphy had finally decided to take action, assuring everyone that Season 12 would be the best AHS season in years.

Fans began to harbor doubts, though, when it was announced that Emma Roberts and Kim Kardashian had been cast in the lead roles. It appeared as though Murphy had decided to generate hype for the project with big names rather than through improvements in writing and directing.

Mixed Bag so Far

The good news is that just a few episodes in, the current season, titled Delicate, is already seen as an improvement over the previous installments. The bad news is that being better than the seasons immediately preceding it is not that big of an achievement, seeing how low they had set the bar.

The story of a young actress trying to get pregnant and discovering that evil forces are preventing that from happening initially sounded exciting. However, the final product turned out to be so slow and uninspiring that fans are already considering abandoning the show altogether.

Bad Duo

Viewers have been particularly disappointed by Roberts and Kardashian, arguing that their performances have rendered the current season virtually unwatchable. While Roberts has proven herself as a talented actress in previous AHS seasons, she typically performs better when surrounded by other talented actors like Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, and Evan Peters. Their absence in Delicate is glaringly obvious.

Kardashian can't seem to inspire Roberts to elevate her performance, as she herself is struggling to convincingly portray her character, much to the chagrin of the fandom. It seems that the big names once associated with AHS quickly realized the show was circling the drain and chose not to appear in it anymore, with only Roberts remaining loyal to Murphy and his now increasingly struggling project.

American Horror Story Season 12 Episode 14 will premiere on FX on October 11, 2023.
