Some unscrupulous producers derailed Elle's career.

Today, Elle Fanning is regarded as one of Hollywood's most gifted and productive young actresses. However, merely a decade ago, Elle was striving to land some major roles. She was primarily recognised as a child actress and was eager to take her career in a new direction.

Regrettably, it would appear that certain producers were intent on holding Elle's career back for some rather despicable reasons.

In 2016, Elle was featured in high-profile films such as The Neon Demon, 20th Century Women, and Trumbo, all within a single year. She had her sights set on a Hollywood comedy about a father and daughter embarking on a road trip, and she was auditioning for the part of the daughter. But to everyone's surprise, Elle was passed over for the role, and here's why.

According to Elle, the producers turned her down because the 16-year-old actress was deemed not sexy enough to play the daughter in the unnamed movie, which sounds quite disturbing. For one, why would a teenage character be required to look sexy in a movie? Even if the film was a comedy, wouldn't it have made more sense for the producers to look for actors with good on-screen chemistry for the father and daughter duo rather than focus on the daughter's sex appeal?

Second, telling a 16-year-old girl she is not sexy enough for a role is not just mean, it's totally inappropriate. It could have traumatised Elle for life and put her off working in Hollywood altogether. Fortunately, Elle is no snowflake.

Luckily, it would appear that Elle didn't pay much attention to the tasteless remark from the unnamed producers and carried on with her movie career. And what a career it has been! At just 25, Elle has already been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and two Golden Globes for her role in Hulu's The Great, where she plays the Russian queen Catherine the Great.

With seven more projects in the works, Elle seems bound to be a huge star in Hollywood for years to come. In hindsight, this makes the producer's remark sound rather stupid, like when Dino De Laurentiis said Meryl Streep was too ugly for King Kong...
