Disney Twisted Wonderland Drops Sooner Than You Think: Release Date, Where to Watch, and Episode Count
With every major franchise racing into anime, Disney stakes its claim with Twisted Wonderland, an Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan series adapting the hit Japanese battle-rhythm mobile game first announced in October 2021.
Disney has been circling the anime space for a while, and now its most obvious crossover play is finally locked in: Twisted Wonderland, the anime adaptation of the Japanese mobile game that mashes up rhythm battles, dorm drama, and Disney villain vibes, has a date. It took them long enough, but the rollout is real and the plan is bigger than I expected.
The quick version
- Premiere: October 29, 2025 for Episode 1, per Disney Plus Japan on X
- Schedule: 8 episodes, released weekly, with the season finale on December 17, 2025
- Where to watch: Disney+ (exclusive), also on Hulu; Crunchyroll is being speculated but not confirmed
- Format: An isekai series directly based on the Twisted Wonderland battle/rhythm mobile game
- Production: Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan
- Creative team: Created by Yana Toboso; directed by Shin Katagai and Takahiro Natori; music by Takumi Ozawa
- Theme: Opening song is 'Piece of My World' by Night Ravens
- Season plan: Three seasons confirmed; Season 1 is 'Episode of Heartslabyul' with 'Episode of Savanaclaw' and 'Episode of Octavinelle' to follow (no dates yet)
- Voices: The game’s voice cast is reprising their roles for the anime

So what actually is Twisted Wonderland?
If you missed the game, here’s the setup: Yuuken Emma gets yanked into another world by a magic mirror and lands at Night Raven College, a magic school where the star students are themed after Disney villains. From there it’s a mix of house rivalries, spellcraft, and Yuuken trying to figure out how to get back home. The anime sticks to that story and keeps the game’s characters and worldbuilding intact. If you already live in this world via the app, the series is basically the same ride with a TV budget and weekly cliffhangers.
Release date and rollout
The date came straight from Disney Plus Japan’s official X account: Wednesday, October 29, 2025. It’s a weekly drop, eight episodes total, landing the finale on December 17, 2025. Disney sat on this for a while after announcing the project back in 2021, but the recent update came with fresh key art. A teaser popped up in March, which lined up with this slow-burn reveal strategy.
Where you can watch
It will stream on Disney+ and will also be available on Hulu. There is chatter about Crunchyroll possibly carrying it, but that is not confirmed. For now, plan on Disney’s platforms.
Who is making it (and the music)
The series is created by Yana Toboso, with direction by Shin Katagai and Takahiro Natori. Takumi Ozawa is handling the score. The opening theme is 'Piece of My World' by Night Ravens, which fans of the game will recognize. The producers are Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan, which is exactly the combo you would expect for this particular East-meets-Disney experiment.
Three-season plan
This is the part that surprised me: Disney and Aniplex confirmed a three-season structure upfront. Season 1 is titled 'Episode of Heartslabyul' and is the one dropping this fall. The next two arcs are 'Episode of Savanaclaw' and 'Episode of Octavinelle.' No timing or episode counts for those yet, just the titles. Filing under: ambitious, but smart if you are adapting the game’s dorm-by-dorm chapter flow.
The angle here
Disney doing a proper anime based on a Japanese mobile game inspired by its own villains is a very 2025 move, and honestly a neat one if they commit. Keeping the game’s voice cast is a good call, and the three-season roadmap suggests they actually want to build this out, not just dabble. If you are curious how Disney’s iconography translates into a straight-up anime aesthetic, this is the one to watch.
