Did You Notice This Tribute to John Mahoney in Frasier Revival Trailer?
The iconic show remembers its heroes.
While much of today's audience is unfamiliar with the iconic sitcom Frasier, it looks like that's about to change in the coming months, as Paramount + recently revealed that the long-rumored Frasier revival will hit streaming this October, with Kellsey Grammer returning as the fan-favorite psychiatrist. And even though the original show is definitely quite old, newer audiences will surely try to check it out in anticipation of the revival season.
However, it's clear that longtime fans will get much more out of the upcoming season, and not just because it would be sweet to see the beloved characters again. The revival show is sure to feature tons of easter eggs and tributes that only fans who have been watching Frasier for decades can really appreciate.
The sweet tribute
While many of the familiar faces will be returning to the Frasier revival, John Mahoney, famous for his role as Frasier's father Martin Crane, won't be, as he passed away in 2018. The iconic actor was one of the reasons the original show became so popular, as his ironic yet heartfelt performance proved to be the perfect counterpart to Frasier.
And while it was impossible to shoot Mahoney in the upcoming revival, the writers decided to at least pay homage to the actor by putting his name in a rather unexpected place - the title of the local Boston bar.
Yes, fans were able to notice in the trailer that the bar where Frasier was sipping beer was actually called Mahoney's, which is a clear tribute to the iconic performer. And some of the longtime fans were quick to compare this tribute to the ones in Cheers and Frasier, as the names of local bars have always been of great importance to the franchise.
'What a kind tribute. I hope Mahoney’s can live up to Cheers and Nervosa as this show’s home away from home,' a fan said.
The iconic sitcom will return with new episodes on October 15, 2023 on Paramount +.
