Did Nina Dobrev Really Dislike The Vampire Diaries That Much?
The actress apparently hates the show that made her famous.
Even though The CW's show about teenage vampires sorting out their relationships while saving the world is still considered one of the best romantic series of 2010s, it looks like the show's cast doesn't really like The Vampire Diaries that much. Of course, they still fondly remember the time they spent on the set, but the show itself is not really their cup of tea.
Of course, TVD fans will be heartbroken that their favorite actors hate the project that made them famous, but it's actually pretty easy to see why Nina Dobrev or Ian Somerhalder do not watch the show at all.
Dobrev dislikes TVD
Although the Elena actress never really publicly hated TVD, fans were quick to notice that she frequently cast shade on the show in her various interviews, calling it a pretty mediocre project. And while some people were quick to shame Nina Dobrev for this, others defended her, citing the insane pressure she was under while filming TVD.
'I think most actors on these teen shows end up resenting it. For one, they work long hours (these shows are so long with 20+ episodes of 40+ minutes per season). They can't easily get out of their contracts and some have to stay for a whole decade,' a fan noted on Reddit.
With such a heavy workload, it's easy to see why Dobrev hates to be reminded of the show that helped to launch her career in Hollywood. Moreover, fans are sure that the actress partially blames her role as Elena for the typecasting that ultimately prevented her from becoming an A-list star after the series was over.
'They're typecast and can barely break into the more serious acting business. Apart from Blake Lively and Penn Badgley, I can't think of anyone who was on a CW or Freeform show and actually made it big afterwards,' another Reddior said, 'All of that on top of [Nina] dating Ian and all the crazy fans shipping them. Must be annoying when you probably dreamt of being the next big star.'
So while Dobrev's dislike for The Vampire Diaries may be disappointing, we can't really blame the actress for that.
