What happened
During a BuzzFeed UK promo bit with Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry (they co-star in Crime 101, out later this month), the trio was asked to name all the superhero movies they’ve been in. Hemsworth started tallying on a whiteboard, stopped at five, and then Ruffalo jumped in to correct him.

'Yeah, but we haven’t shot that one.'
Nobody actually says the title Secret Wars in the clip. But the math lines up a little too neatly to ignore.
Why fans think that means Thor is back
Hemsworth has appeared in way more than six MCU films overall. If you limit the count to Avengers-specific team-ups, though, he’s at five when you include the unreleased Avengers: Doomsday. The sixth would be Secret Wars. And yes, fans did the full zoom-and-enhance on the whiteboard screenshot — rotated it, zoomed in — and noticed Hemsworth was listing numbers next to the word 'Avengers' when he first said five. It’s a small clue, but it tracks.
Where Secret Wars stands
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to start filming later this year. Joe and Anthony Russo are directing, with a US release date set for December 17, 2027. It’s a direct follow-up to Avengers: Doomsday, which is in post-production now and scheduled for December 18, 2026.
So who is actually confirmed?
Marvel hasn’t rolled out a full cast list for Secret Wars yet. A few pieces are locked, others are just heavily implied:
- Letitia Wright and Simu Liu have both said they’re in Secret Wars.
- Sadie Sink’s mystery character is set to appear.
- Marvel has not announced the full roster.
- Doonsday hits December 18, 2026; Secret Wars follows December 17, 2027.

None of this is a formal Thor announcement, but between Ruffalo’s 'there will be' nudge and Hemsworth acknowledging 'we haven’t shot that one,' I’d be shocked if the God of Thunder sits this one out. Until Marvel makes it official, consider it a very loud hint.
