DCU Superman Spin-off Short Drops Next Week — You Won’t Want To Miss This

Krypto the Superdog rockets into the DCU spotlight next week as a new Superman spin-off short lands on HBO Max, arriving hot on the heels of James Gunn’s Superman now streaming.
Krypto is not done stealing scenes. After making his official DCU debut in James Gunn's Superman, the superdog is now headlining his own animated shorts on HBO Max. And the next one lands very soon.
What is it and when does it drop?
The second chapter of DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation's four-part short series, titled 'Krypto Saves the Day: Halloween Haunt,' hits HBO Max on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The first installment arrived last month, shortly after Gunn's Superman (written and directed by Gunn) hit theaters and then moved to streaming. If you missed it, Superman is already available on HBO Max, and these shorts basically spin out of that version of the character. Yes, Krypto is officially DCU canon now.
So what are these shorts, exactly?
Think bite-sized comedy adventures with Krypto zooming around Metropolis, using his superpowers to fix everyday headaches. Very kid-friendly, but with a wink. HBO Max's synopsis sums up the vibe:
'Look Pup! Fresh off his star-making performance in Superman, Krypto returns in a series of original comedic animated shorts. 'Krypto Saves the Day!' brings the caped canine's brand of heroic hijinks to everyday life in Metropolis. From school bus rescues to Spring Break cruise ship saves - and even Halloween candy crises - no adventure is too small as Krypto delivers super-powered action, laughs, and plenty of mischief for fans of all ages.'
It is a surprisingly inside-baseball move for the DCU: keep momentum for a breakout character between films with quick-hit animation. Honestly, smart.
Where Krypto shows up next on the big screen
Krypto is also expected to appear in Craig Gillespie's upcoming Supergirl movie, set for June 26, 2026. The film is written by Ana Nogueira and adapts Tom King and Bilquis Evely's 2021-22 comic 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.'
- Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
- Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills
- Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll
- David Krumholtz as Zor-El
- Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze
- Jason Momoa as Lobo
Bottom line: if Krypto stole your heart in Superman, you have new animated chaos to watch on October 1, and the Supergirl movie is lining up to give the superpup even more to do.
