Here's why Pierce is right to not come back.

NBC's Frasier is still considered one of the best sitcoms of all time, and for good reason. Even today, the Kelsey Grammer-led show about a psychiatrist turned radio host feels quite fresh and compelling, thanks to its interesting stories, lovable characters, and sophisticated humor.

So of course, it's not surprising that Frasier's legacy as one of the most popular comedy shows out there has prompted Paramount+ to capitalize on it. The network has recently announced that a revival series will premiere this year, with Grammer reprising the role of Frasier Crane.

While many fans were happy to learn that the beloved snob would be returning to the screens so soon, others grew a bit cautious, worried that the streaming giant might destroy their fond memories of the sitcom. Since Paramount's sole goal is to make money, it's likely that the producers will not treat the cult show with deserved respect, so the end result may disappoint.

David Hyde Pierce, the actor who played Frasier's brother Niles in the original show, seems to share the same sentiment. Pierce has explicitly stated that he will not be returning for the revival, arguing that the original chemistry between the characters can't be reproduced after so much time has passed.

Here's How to Catch Up on Frasier Before October 12 Revival Premiere

'David said he did not think the magic between the cast could be re-created, and it would be disappointing to try. I still think the new show can deliver laughs, but it won't be a re-creation of the original, it will be its own new thing,' a fan said on Reddit.

However, some people are a bit surprised that both Pierce and the fandom are worried about the revival show ruining the legacy of the original Frasier. These fans note that Paramount+ has no intention of changing the already released series, but simply invites the audience to enjoy more adventures with Frasier at the center.

'I think we all have to keep in mind that this isn't a reboot. The most accurate term would just be a spin-off, how Frasier was a spin-off of Cheers. People complained the same way then, and people will complain the same way now,' another fan commented.

Frasier is set to debut on Paramount+ on October 12, 2023.
