After a multi-year hiatus, Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya is making his acting comeback, entering talks to lead A24’s sci-fi thriller Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel from writer-director Michael Shanks, Deadline reports.

Daniel Kaluuya is edging back in front of a camera. A24 is circling a sci-fi thriller with a title that looks like a copy-paste error, and he is in talks to lead it. If it closes, this would be his first live-action role since 2022.

So what is 'Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel'?

Yes, that title is intentional. The project comes from writer-director Michael Shanks and leans into reality-bending, solo-escape-room energy. The official pitch is clean and simple:

"Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel follows a man who wakes up trapped in a mysterious hotel room. All alone in a mind-bending prison, his only chance for escape is teamwork - with himself."

Conceptually, that screams one-man showcase with a twist, which makes Kaluuya a sharp fit if the deal lands.

Who is making it

Shanks will write, direct, and produce. He just came off his feature debut, the 2025 body horror 'Together' starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie. That one premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, sold to Neon for an estimated $20 million, drew favorable reviews, and went on to gross $34 million worldwide after its July 2025 release. A24 is backing the new film.

  • Additional producers: Mike Cowap and Emma Fitzsimmons for Princess Pictures; Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for HyperObject Industries.

Kaluuya, back in the (live-action) mix

If you have been wondering where he has been since 'Nope,' you are not alone. Kaluuya last appeared in live action in Jordan Peele's 2022 sci-fi horror hit, which earned over $171 million worldwide. He has not exactly been on the couch, though: he voiced Hobie 'Hobie' Brown/Spider-Punk in 2023's 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' and co-wrote, co-directed, and produced 'The Kitchen,' a British dystopian drama that premiered on Netflix in January 2024.

Career snapshot: Kaluuya broke out leading 2017's 'Get Out,' which scored four Oscar nominations, including Best Actor for him; Peele won Best Original Screenplay. He followed with 'Black Panther,' 'Widows,' and 'Queen & Slim,' then won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for playing Fred Hampton in 2021's 'Judas and the Black Messiah.'

Bottom line: a mind-bender built around a single performance, with A24 and a buzzy up-and-comer behind the camera, is a smart stage for Kaluuya's return. And yes, the title really does say 'Hotel' four times.
