Crime 101 Full Trailer Unleashes Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoghan in Don Winslow’s High-Stakes Heist Thriller

Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoghan front Crime 101, the Don Winslow adaptation that just dropped its full trailer ahead of a February 2026 release.
Crime 101 just dropped its first full trailer, and if you told me someone dumped the cast wish list of every heist fan into one movie, I would believe you. It is based on Don Winslow's novella and lands right before Valentine’s Day next year. Bring a date or bring your spreadsheets; either way, it is aiming for that big, glossy, adult-thriller lane.
What the movie is
Set in sun-baked Los Angeles, the story follows an ultra-precise thief working the 101 freeway (Chris Hemsworth) who lines up one last monster score. A burned-out insurance pro (Halle Berry) gets pulled into his orbit just as a dogged cop (Mark Ruffalo) starts closing in. As the payday gets closer and the numbers get bigger, the roles start to flip and everyone has to live with what they signed up for.
The people making and headlining it
- Chris Hemsworth as the elusive thief planning a final, multimillion-dollar heist
- Halle Berry as a disillusioned insurance broker at a crossroads
- Mark Ruffalo as the relentless detective on their trail
- Also starring: Barry Keoghan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte, Tate Donovan, Monica Barbaro, and Corey Hawkins
- Based on the Don Winslow novella
- Screenplay by Bart Layton and Peter Straughan; Layton is also directing (his last feature was 2018's American Animals)
- Straughan is the writer behind Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Conclave
- From Amazon MGM Studios
The heat check (yes, those comparisons)
Ever since this project started making the rounds, the big reference point has been Michael Mann's Heat. That is a bold measuring stick, but the cat-and-mouse setup, LA backdrop, and laser-focus on process make the comparison make sense. The trailer leans into that sleek, high-stakes vibe.
How we got here
This one had a noisy path to the starting line. Back in 2023, Amazon and Netflix duked it out for the package in a deal reportedly flirting with $100 million. At one point, Pedro Pascal was attached alongside Hemsworth. Amazon ultimately won the rights, and now we have the movie locked in for February 13, 2026.
Winslow on screen (recent history)
Winslow adaptations have been circling Hollywood for a while. We have already seen 2007's The Life and Death of Bobby Z and Oliver Stone's Savages (Winslow co-wrote that with Stone and Shane Salerno). More are brewing too, including a City on Fire project with Austin Butler attached.
Bottom line
Big stars, big swings, L.A. crime mythology, and a studio that paid real money to be in business with it. If the movie hits the precision the trailer is selling, we might have a new freeway-classic on our hands. Crime 101 opens February 13, 2026.
