CeCe & Ty Lack of Chemistry is Sweet Magnolias Season 2's Weakest Point

Netflix's Sweet Magnolias is one of the most popular melodramas in the streaming service's library, rivaling such fan-favorite shows as Virgin River and Ginny & Georgia.

The story of three friends who support each other from high school into their late thirties resonated with many viewers from the start, and Season 2 cemented the show's success by paying more attention to the teenage characters, who spend most of their time dating or fighting over each other.

However, it seems that one of the central romances of Season 2 was not well received by fans, as the pairing of CeCe Matney and Tyler 'Ty' Townsend proved to be a rather lackluster idea on the part of the series' writers. While it was obvious that CeCe had a huge crush on Ty since Season 1, people felt that they wouldn't make a great couple, and their suspicions were proven in Season 2.

When the two characters began to date, it became clear that Ty had no real interest in CeCe, and it was she who made their romance a reality. Ty appeared to be more interested in Annie than his girlfriend, and fans hated him for that, arguing that he was torturing CeCe for no reason.

'Yeah, he's barely into her, all the effort and interest came from her. I was so happy for her when she finally stood up for herself and stopped accepting the bare minimum he was offering,' a fan commented on Reddit.

Even the fans who don't like CeCe as a character think that Ty is not the right person for her, and he doesn't look like someone you can trust. His obsession with Annie really gets in the way of her being happy, as he pushes Annie away only to come back the moment she finds some peace for herself.

'I agree that the two don't have great chemistry and his eyes seem to be more on Annie, but it also feels like he only wants Annie when he can't have her or someone else has her, which is unfair to Annie who we know had a huge crush on Tyler,' another fan pointed out. 'I am not a fan of CeCe's character in general and agree that her and Tyler are not a great match.'

Fans are hoping this romantic arc will end in the upcoming Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias, which is set for release on July 20, 2023.
