It looks like Levinson's bet on Jennie is paying off.

Sam Levinson's The Idol quickly became one of the most talked about shows of the summer. Unfortunately, it's not the good quality of the show that people have been discussing but rather the lack thereof. Fans hated the show for its excessive nudity, sexual violence and poor writing and accused the creator of deliberately using shocking content to get more viewers to watch the show.

However, it looks like HBO is more than satisfied with The Idol's performance, as hundreds of thousands of people are still tuning in to watch it on a weekly basis.

However, it's not Levinson or The Weeknd that have been the main draw of the show: the one person everybody's been talking about in the context of the Idol has been Blackpink's Jennie, despite the fact she actually has very limited screen time in the series. The K-pop star plays Dyanne, a supporting character who is Jocelyn's backup dancer. She doesn't even appear at all in some episodes, and yet many fans are convinced she's the only saving grace about The Idol, but is that really the case?

'It is nice to see a familiar face in different lighting but then I was like she doesn't get many lines so how does she save the show? She's barely in the episodes,' a fan wondered.

It's true Jennie hardly ever steals the spotlight from The Weeknd or Lily-Rose Depp, but her army of fans have definitely helped HBO achieve some impressive ratings for The Idol. There are, apparently, a huge number of people out there who only watch every episode of The Idol because they know Jennie is in it, and they're hoping to see her showcase her acting chops.

And even if Jennie's character dies in the final episode, you can be sure thousands of Blackpink fans are going to be tuning in to see it with their own eyes.

'Sam and Abel knew what they were doing by giving her a role that barely has any lines, casting a girl who belongs to the most popular group in the world was a smart move. It was pure marketing. She "carried" the show because she made her fans tuned in,' another fan pointed out.

So, when all is said and done, it looks like Levinson made the right call when he invited Jennie on the show, seeing how he got exactly what he was hoping to achieve by casting her.

The Idol Episode 4 will premiere on HBO on 2 July 2023.
