With his story, the tone of the show must change too.

Netflix's Bridgerton is often described as a magical and feel-good show with romance at its core. However, this period drama from Shonda Rhimes actually raises a lot of problematic questions, using the romantic stories as a means to highlight some important 19th-century issues that are still relevant today.

This approach is unlikely to change in the upcoming Season 3, as the plot of the new Bridgerton chapter will focus on the romance between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, and their story is also riddled with problems in Julia Quinn's original book. But there's a chance that the third season may set up a wonderfully different tone for Season 4.

As you know, Shonda Rhimes decided to change the original chronology of Quinn's novels, choosing to adapt the fourth book of the cycle instead of the third, which follows the love story of Benedict and Sophie. It's now expected that Benedict will become the hero of the following fourth season, and fans hope that the writers will add the much-needed magic to his story.

Benedict's solo book, titled An Offer from the Gentleman, is largely modeled after classic romantic fairy tales, with both him and Sophie looking like a pair of star-crossed lovers. Their love story may feel a bit cheesy, but it's still a heartwarming and satisfying piece of romance fiction, so fans of Julia Quinn urge the series' creators to stay close to their source material and change Bridgerton's tone to fit the novel.

At the moment, it is not clear whether Sophie will be introduced in Season 3, as no casting announcement has been made by the series' team. Fans believed that it would be unfair to leave Benedict alone for the duration of the season that was stolen from him, and hope that he'll get to meet his love interest in the upcoming episodes.

Setting up for Benedict's love story in Season 3 seems like a logical move if the writers want to explore his arc in the following installment. Hopefully, Shonda Rhimes and her team won't overlook that slightly different, fairy-tale tone of the original book and attempt to recreate it in their adaptation.
