Beginner's Guide to the Power Shows: The List of Every Spinoff on Starz
The hit Starz show has a lot of spin-offs.
When Power premiered on Starz back in 2014, no one expected the series to become such a huge hit, reviving 50 Cent's career as a producer and actor. And even though the original show ended in 2020, the network decided to turn it into a franchise, producing three series tied to the original characters and storylines.
Here's a breakdown of all Power spin-offs:
- Power Book II: Ghost (2020, 3 seasons)
- Power Book III: Raising Kanan (2021, 2 seasons)
- Power Book IV: Force (2022, 2 seasons)
Ghost
Despite its title, this spin-off doesn't reverse Ghost's death that ended the original show, with the main hero of the story becoming Ghost's son Tariq St. Patrick. Following the college kid as he deals drugs and tries to cement himself as the heir to his father's empire, Ghost also became a solid hit with Starz viewers, with Mary J. Blige's turn as Monet receiving the most praise.
Power Book II: Ghost may lack the confidence of the original, but it's still a blast for all Power fans.
Raising Kanan
As you may infer from the title, the show follows the iconic Kanan Stark in his teenage years. Even though lots of fans were wary of the idea of seeing Stark played by anyone other than 50 Cent, Mekai Curtis did a fine job of embodying the character.
The story is set in the 1990s, and because Starz didn't skimp on the production budget, the spin-off feels and looks like a real period piece. And rest assured, the amount of interesting crime-related storylines is on par with the original Power.
Force
Thankfully, Power's original fan-favorite characters have not been forgotten by Starz, so this spin-off released in 2022 follows Tommy Egan, the main show's most popular hero. After Ghost's death, Tommy decided to leave New York for Chicago to try his luck as a drug kingpin. Thanks to his charisma and ruthlessness, Tommy succeeds, but enemies are already lurking nearby.
Of all the spin-offs, Force is undoubtedly the most acclaimed, as the beloved lead character and a great script helped it reach the top.
