It looks like Henry Cavill's departure from the show is not such a big deal.

Netflix's The Witcher became one of the most divisive shows upon its release in 2019, as fans blasted the project for straying too far from the original books and video games, calling it another shallow Netflix cash grab. However, one thing about the show was actually praised by nearly every Witcher fan — Henry Cavill playing the iconic Geralt. The actor was clearly passionate about the project and his character, and this was one big reason why so many people grew addicted to the show.

Recently, the news that Cavill would be leaving The Witcher after the upcoming third season shocked viewers, and Netflix's decision to replace the actor with Liam Hemsworth was not welcomed by fans. Many people are worried that Cavill's legacy would be destroyed in an instant after his departure and would rather see the series ended after Season 3.

However, it seems that some people from the show's creative team do not share the audiences' concerns. Actress Mecia Simson, who plays Francesca Findabair on The Witcher, is quite sure that the project will survive even without its biggest star.

'I was very shocked when I found out [about Cavill's exit] because we've done three seasons with him. Obviously, it's sad because it's the end of an era. But that's okay. And I think about what comes next… There's going to be more exciting things that are going to happen. Of course, it's sad, but, honestly, I don't think it's going to affect the show that much,' Simson said.

Obviously, most of the fans disagree with the actress, arguing that changing an actor was a terrible decision on Netflix's part. Moreover, even if Cavill had decided to stay with the show after Season 3, many fans would probably still refuse to watch the next seasons, as Netflix's adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's series has already proved to be pretty mediocre.

'Season 4 of course interests me because Baptism of Fire is my favorite Witcher book, but it's also even slower than Blood of Elves with very little action so I expect it to be thoroughly butchered, because The Witcher has to have action scenes every episode and is allergic to good dialogue for some reason,' a fan said on Reddit, echoing the fandom's common sentiment.

The Witcher Season 3 will arrive on Netflix on June 29, 2023.
