It all depends on the writers' intentions.

Spinoffs of popular TV shows are a dime a dozen, but few of them can rival the original show's success.

Young Sheldon, however, is one of a handful of exceptions: not only has it matched the success of its parent show, The Big Bang Theory, but it has actually surpassed it in many respects.

Young Sheldon first aired in 2017 and ran concurrently with TBBT for two years until the latter concluded in 2019 after twelve seasons.

The two shows never had a crossover while on the air together, which is natural, seeing how the events in Young Sheldon take place years before those in TBBT. But as the story of Sheldon Cooper's childhood years nears its logical conclusion with Sheldon growing up, we can't help but wonder if we'll ever see our beloved characters (and actors) from The Big Bang Theory in the prequel.

In fact, one of the franchise's executive producers, Steve Holland, previously touched on this possibility during an interview for the book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story Of The Epic Hit Series by Jessica Radloff.

'Never say never. It would be exciting. I would love to be around them all again, but I don't want to take anything away from the magnificent cast of Young Sheldon by leaning on the Big Bang cast,' the EP's opinion in the book goes. 'I don't think it would be fair to them [YS cast] or the show.'

Nevertheless, four TBBT cast members have already appeared on Young Sheldon, albeit in limited capacities. Jim Parsons, the actor who portrays the original Sheldon, narrates the spinoff. Mayim Bialik's Amy and Simon Helberg's Howard have also provided narration for a couple of episodes. On the other hand, Kaley Cuoco made an uncredited voice cameo as — wait for it — the pool water during Sheldon's nightmare in episode 10 of season 3.

As for the rest of The Big Bang Theory cast, they have yet to appear on Young Sheldon. Moreover, the chances of the cast reuniting for the spinoff seem slim, and it's unlikely to happen unless the writers have something planned for the end of the series. So far, the spinoff has followed the original canon, and we can expect to see some major events in the sixth season's finale that adult Sheldon talked about back in the first season of TBBT.

The next episode of Young Sheldon will air on CBS on 27 April 2003.
