Are Outer Banks' Madelyn Cline & Chase Stokes Still Friends After Split?
Fans wonder if the two exes are even talking to each other offscreen.
Outer Banks may be the biggest of all the sleeper hits that Netflix has produced over the years. The small show about a bunch of teenagers chasing a treasure surprised everyone when it became one of the most-watched series in the streaming platform's catalogue, making Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes superstars. It was the crazy chemistry between the two leads that many people saw as a major factor in the show's success. And Cline and Strokes' dramatic personal lives may have contributed even more to Outer Banks' soaring ratings.
The characters Cline and Stokes play on the show fell in love in the first season, and the actors followed suit and started dating offscreen while keeping a low profile. However, the couple broke up after only a year together, and fans began to wonder whether the two felt comfortable pretending to be in love on set after the break-up, with some even fearing one of the actors might leave the project because of it.
While the notion of two exes playing lovers in the same project may sound weird, it would appear that Cline and Stokes are totally cool with working together, and their crazy on-screen chemistry doesn't seem to have been affected by their break-up in the slightest.
While fans may doubt if Cline and Stokes remain friends in real life, one thing is for sure: the two actors are cool-headed professionals and will never let their personal issues get in the way of their work on Outer Banks. Work trumps feelings; the show's going strong, and jeopardising the show's success because of some personal drama is just not the sort of thing that either Cline or Stokes see as an option.
'Mads and I have been working together now for 30 episodes, and we made a promise to each other before we even started dating that the work was always going to come first. And that no matter what happens in our personal lives and the ways that life sometimes takes you in different directions, that we're always going to honour the work,' Stokes said.
Netflix has just renewed Outer Banks for a fourth season, scheduled for release in 2024.
