Archie & Jughead Kiss Riverdale Fans Will Never Get to See
Fans are not happy with the series' finale.
After seven long years on the air, The CW's Riverdale is officially over, and fans are saying goodbye to Archie, Jughead, Betty, and the rest of the town. Even though the quality of the show has diminished considerably over the years, viewers were hoping that series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa would surprise them with the final episode.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen at all, as the writer decided to make the last episode an introspective farewell to the characters instead of a proper finale to the story.
While viewers were expecting a big twist to wrap up the events of Riverdale, they only got a chance to see what the protagonists would do after leaving the town. Of course, seeing what the beloved characters are up to in the future was rewarding in a way, but most fans couldn't help but feel a little cheated.
But even though the writers decided to end the show on a quiet note, they still dropped one hell of a bombshell in the final moments of the show. At the end, Betty suddenly revealed that she, Archie, Jughead, and Veronica had actually been enjoying a foursome for some time, and had slept together on several occasions.
Riverdale's Ending Did Fans Dirty in 5 Big Ways, According to Reddit
Although some fans fantasized about Archie and Jughead as a romantic couple, none of them could have really predicted that such a thing could be considered Riverdale canon. However, since Betty was seen kissing Archie, Jughead, and Veronica at different moments in the show, people found it a bit strange that Archie and Jughead weren't seen kissing in the finale.
And though some were quick to accuse the writers of queer-baiting, it looks like executive producer Sarah Schechter is ready to reveal the real reason why they decided not to show KJ Apa and Cole Sprouse kissing each other.
'I mean, that's, like, too hot for TV. I think there's a fantastic, fantastic amount of LGBTQ representation on the show,' Schechter said.
In any case, fans are a little angry at the writers for using the hated 'tell not show' strategy. Ultimately, the Riverdale foursome will forever be remembered as a joke, since none of it was actually shown on screen.
