Andy Cohen Has a Lot to Say on What Went Wrong with Love is Blind Live Reunion
Netflix has been ridiculed for an embarrassing delay in releasing the reunion episode of Love is Blind Season 4.
Love is Blind Season 4 has been one of the most talked about reality shows of the year, with its drama, unconventional romantic pairings, and sudden heartbreaks exceeding fans' expectations.
To capitalise on the show's success, Netflix announced a live reunion to air on 16 April. Thousands of people tuned in to see their favourite contestants get together one more time, only to be met with nothing – the episode was released the following day in a pre-recorded format. But what caused this mishap?
Although Netflix cited technical difficulties as the reason for the delay, many fans suspected that the producers realised their mistake in attempting a live reunion. Such an event would make it nearly impossible to create engaging content from people yelling at each other without editing. TV personality Andy Cohen seems to agree with this sentiment.
‘There is a reason [reunion episodes are] edited down. We could talk about a topic on a reunion taping for 25 minutes, for 45 minutes before really getting to the heart of something. Reunion shows are almost like a fishing expedition. You’re talking about different topics and you don’t know what’s going to land [or] what’s going to hit.
By the way, a lot of times people will have incredible one-liners that no one in the room really heard because someone on the other side is talking. So we go through the footage, we hone it, we edit it [and it] is finally shaped,’ Cohen said on Andy Cohen Live.
It appears that Netflix's producers should heed the Bravo veteran's advice, as that network has never encountered significant issues with airing their reunion episodes on time.
While fans may be willing to forgive Netflix for this error, considering the streaming service's reality show division is still relatively young, they hope the same problems never happen in other shows. After this incident, it seems clear that pre-recorded reunion episodes are the most sensible approach!
