It appears that Megan's journey to stardom was somewhat less straightforward than initially perceived.

American Idol and The Voice have always rivalled each other in the quest for viewership and budding singers. Whilst certain years have been better for The Voice, American Idol has consistently retaliated, keeping the rivalry between these two leading reality singing competitions alive.

Intriguingly, while the final six singers on American Idol are undeniably talented, it seems not all are first-time contestants, despite the show presenting them as such.

Megan Danielle stands out as the most relatable among all the competitors who have advanced this far. Her battles with stage fright and generally low self-esteem have made fans rally behind her after each of her live performances. However, some fans have recently discovered that this narrative may have been fabricated by American Idol’s producers, seeing how Megan previously appeared on The Voice and was quite successful there.

Megan was part of Kelly Clarkson's team in The Voice's 18th season, where she made it to the Top 9 as a country singer. Sure, she didn’t win, but she definitely went a long way. That experience would certainly have equipped her to tackle the competition on American Idol a few years later.

Yet, while some fans accuse Megan and the producers of completely fabricating a 'lack of confidence' storyline, others argue that being on The Voice wouldn’t necessarily have made her a professional singer and helped her get rid of all her phobias and inhibitions.

‘The Voice doesn't necessary gave them confidence. And it doesn't support artists that much. Megan also was in the season where COVID hit in first time, and even though she made it to Top 9, they couldn't perform in live, on stage and just sang in their own home,’ a fan noted.

While it's perfectly acceptable for American Idol's producers to select contestants from other reality singing competitions, fans were surprised to learn that Megan is not a unique case. Wé Ani, Marybeth Byrd, and Michael Williams were also previously contestants on The Voice. This revelation seems to be a marketing faux pas for American Idol, wouldn't you agree?

American Idol Season 21 Episode 18 will arrive on 14 May 2023.
