It looks like the beloved show may finally be coming to an end.

Since its premiere in 2011, American Horror Story has become a staple of primetime television, proving that there is still room for experimentation in today's TV landscape. Each season of the show is unique, and series creator Ryan Murphy uses all of his ingenuity and talent to surprise fans on an annual basis.

Season 12 of the anthology horror series is already filmed and expected for release in the summer of 2023. The following installment has also been confirmed by FX, but fans are worried that Season 13 may be AHS' last. And they have at least three good reasons to think that.

Ratings are down

While AHS' first three seasons were incredibly well received, prompting FX to give Murphy a free hand with his creative vision, the show's later installments struggled with ratings. In the last two seasons, the viewership numbers plummeted to the point where it became painfully clear Murphy needed to change his tactics for the show's next chapter.

As a result, the creator decided to adapt a book instead of an original screenplay and cast Kim Kardashian to play one of the lead roles in Season 12. We're yet to see if his decisions prove to be successful.

Kim might ruin the show

Needless to say, people are not happy that the controversial celebrity has been cast to star in the show alongside fan-favorite Emma Roberts. It looks like FX and Murphy are hoping that Kim would bring more viewers to the show, but fans doubt that she has enough acting talent to carry the role.

Kardashian's involvement is likely to hurt the creative integrity of AHS and alienate the series' core fan base.

Murphy is preoccupied with other projects

After AHS enjoyed such a massive success with its first season, Ryan Murphy became one of the busiest creators in Hollywood, working for Netflix, FX, and Fox at the same time. It's no wonder that the last few seasons of AHS flopped, as the creator was simply too busy to really take care of the show that made him famous.

All eyes are now on AHS Season 12, because if it flops again, FX will likely pull the plug on the beloved series.
