All-American Cast Is the Best Thing That Could Happened to Harry Potter
You’ve gotta love fandom, and in particular, the love that people still display for their favourite franchises long after they first hit our screens.
It’s amazing what fans dream up when it comes to discussing and reimagining movies and TV shows – like recasting Harry Potter with an all-American lineup.
But it looks like one that might just have worked. Let’s take a look at some of the ‘stars’ of the US Harry Potter:
Melissa McCarthy as Molly Weasley
Woah! We’re straight in here replacing UK acting royalty Julie Walters. But hey, it’s an all-American cast. And McCarthy would almost certainly add her own brand of humour to the role.
Sadie Sink as Ginny Weasley
We all know she can act and she certainly looks the part. The only criticism here is that the part might be wasted on her.
Gaten Matarazzo as Neville Longbottom
No question. We’ve seen Matarazzo play the slightly geeky hero – and who knows, maybe there’s a chance for Neville to wow Hogwarts with his singing?
Mila Kunis as Bellatrix Lestrange
Most famous for slightly lighter roles, Kunis has played a professional assassin and the Wicked Witch of the West, so let’s not be too quick to discount her.
Jack Nicholson as Mad-Eye Moody
He’s Jack Nicholson. He can have any part he wants.
Steve Buscemi as Argus Filch
Buscemi is a true all-rounder with a great screen presence. If you’re looking for an American to play Argus Filch, is there anyone better?
Meryl Streep as Minerva McGonagall
You can’t fault Dame Maggie Smith’s portrayal of Prof. McGonagall and we may be moving into the territory of ‘absolutely irreplaceable’ here. Until you realise it’s Meryl Streep we’re talking about.
Adam Driver as Severus Snape
Again, we’re on the dodgy ground when it comes to even suggesting Snape could be played by anyone other than Alan Rickman. But Driver absolutely looks the part, and can seemingly turn his hand to any role.
Jorge Garcia as Hagrid
The Lost star has all the physical attributes and is a damn fine actor. There really is nobody else even worth considering.
John Malkovich as Lord Voldemort
Perfect choice. Next!
Marsai Martin as Hermione Granger
She’d play the role very differently from how Emma Watson did. But don’t tell me you can’t see it working.
Benjamin Haigh as Ron Weasley
He looks the part and has a similar voice to the Ron who appeared in The Philosopher’s Stone.
Owen Vaccaro as Harry Potter
Once again, it’s hard to argue he doesn’t look the part. And with 8 film credits to his name before the age of 12, he certainly has more experience as a child actor than Daniel Radcliffe did before landing the part of Harry.
