AJLT Season 2 Premiere Ratings Prove It Won't Be Renewed for Season 3

HBO's Sex and the City was one of the most popular shows of its era, breaking many network records and influencing dozens of TV series that came after. So it was no surprise when HBO decided to revive the beloved show under the new title And Just Like That… in 2021, trying to capitalize on the success Sarah Jessica Parker and her co-stars enjoyed all those years ago.

However, the horribly titled sequel failed to reach the heights of its predecessor, as And Just Like That... struggled to get people to watch it throughout its first season. The show was renewed for a second installment, but mostly because of its pedigree, not actual interest from modern viewers.

Fans hoped that HBO would do everything to make the new season more compelling that the half-baked first installment, but now that two episodes of Season 2 are released, it looks like their hopes have been dashed. Viewers are disappointed with subpar acting, uninspired writing, and poor character development in the new episodes, and the series' ratings actually prove that people no longer care about Carrie Bradshaw and company.

According to a recent study, the first episode of AJLT Season 2 was seen by 191 thousand American households, while Episode 2 was watched by only 143 thousand, which is a huge drop for an HBO series. In comparison, the first episode of The Idol was seen by nearly a million households, which makes it clear that HBO will cancel the SATC spin-off after this current season.

'This makes sense to me. At first, people who were more casual fans of the OG series were willing to watch. They will lose interest quickly without feeling some sense of a connection to SATC. Now, you just have die-hards who love it, or love to hate watch. AJLT Season 1 failed to get new people invested,' one fan explained.

So it looks like Sarah Jessica Parker and HBO's producers should finally let Carrie go and enjoy her rest, as the fans are clearly not interested in And Just Like That… anymore.

Episode 3 of AJLT Season 2 will air on June 29, 2023.
