Ahsoka Release Date and Episode Guide Revealed: Here's How to Watch
Get yourself ready for the new Star Wars adventure.
So, fans of a galaxy far, far away, are you ready to dive into a new Force-infused adventure? Today marks the release of the first two episodes of the highly anticipated Ahsoka series.
At this point, many might be wondering how to approach the new show and whether it's enough to just tune in without familiarizing yourself with any other Star Wars spin-offs.
First, here are the release details for you. Ahsoka will debut with the first two episodes today, August 22, at 9 pm ET. Like all the other movies and shows in the Star Wars franchise, it will be streaming on Disney+: the service subscription costs $11 per month without commercials or $7 with ads.
The miniseries will have only eight episodes, each airing on Tuesday. However, showrunner Dave Filoni has repeatedly said that he may develop another season depending on how the audience responds to the new show.
Apparently, you can tune in to Ahsoka without any additional preparation — knowing the original George Lucas films should be enough to get you started.
'We never want to create a situation where you feel like you have to have seen these things because then you're missing out,' Filoni told IGN.
However, if you're keen to dig deeper into the context, you may want to check out other Star Wars content as well.
Ahsoka's events begin parallel to The Mandalorian, that is, 9–12 years after New Hope. The character first appears in the Season 5 episode 'The Jedi' and also in the spin-off The Book of Boba Fett, in the episode 'From the Desert Comes a Stranger.'
It may be a good idea to watch the 2008 animated movie Clone Wars, which introduced Anakin Skywalker's young apprentice, but reading the synopsis for the film would also be enough. Instead, you might want to focus on the series The Clone Wars, set 22–19 years before New Hope, and Rebels, which starts five years before and ends concurrently with the main events of Episode IV.
The most important episodes in The Clone Wars are 'Cloak of Darkness,' 'Brain Invaders,' 'Lightsaber Lost,' 'The Onderon Arc' (Episodes 2–4 of Season 5), and especially 'The Wrong Jedi' of Season 5 and the last three episodes of Season 7. However, we highly recommend watching the entire show from start to finish.
Filoni's upcoming series will focus on Rebels since that's where many of Ahsoka's characters come from. The episodes 'Fire Across the Galaxy,' 'Shroud of Darkness,' 'Twilight of the Apprentice' (especially this one!), 'Trials of the Darksaber,' 'A World Between Worlds,' and 'Family Reunion – and Farewell' are all worth watching.
