It looks like Sheldon won't be returning this fall.

While some fans have grown disenchanted with Young Sheldon in recent years, especially as the once-endearing show took a more melancholic turn after Season 5, millions still hold a fondness for Sheldon and his family and are looking forward to their return. With the upcoming Season 7 potentially being the final one, owing to Sheldon's move to Germany, anticipation has been building up for the show's comeback and is now at an all-time high.

The problem is, with the network having recently released its new schedule for the coming months, it's now been confirmed that the Coopers won't be returning to CBS this fall.

The news of Young Sheldon's indefinite hiatus may be disappointing to many, but it's not entirely unexpected. The ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have forced numerous movies and series to put production on pause. Primetime network shows have been hit especially hard due to their extensive shooting schedules; almost none managed to wrap up a full season before the strikes began and wreaked havoc across the industry.

Young Sheldon was slated to kick off filming for Season 7 this summer. However, with both actors and writers on strike, CBS had no choice but to officially put off the show. Though producers were optimistic about a swift resolution to the strikes, the looming fall season compelled the network to acknowledge the impossibility of shooting any Young Sheldon episodes in the coming months.

Currently, CBS hasn't specified a release date for Season 7. Yet, some analysts believe that a mid-season premiere might be the most strategic move to maintain the show's viewership, suggesting that fans may expect to see Sheldon and his family again between January and March 2024.

It has to be noted, though, that if Young Sheldon's new season is to premiere in early 2024, production on the show has to begin very soon, and that can hardly happen unless the strikes end in the next few weeks. Otherwise, a new season of Young Sheldon may not see the light of day until a year from now.
