A Movie Nicole Kidman Refused to Star In Ended Up With $678 Million & 6 Oscars
It looks like the famous actress could have become a real star much earlier.
Nicole Kidman is now considered one of the most iconic actresses in Hollywood history, but her rise to fame wasn't all that instant. In the early 90s, Kidman was just another young actress trying to make it big in the competitive movie industry.
And while she certainly achieved her goal with films like To Die For and Far and Away, it looks like Kidman could have become a major Hollywood celebrity much earlier if she'd agreed to star in a very famous movie.
According to some reports, Hollywood producers approached Kidman to star in a film called Forrest Gump, but the actress refused to even send in a screen test for the role of Jenny Curran, which was eventually given to Robin Wright.
It's not clear why Kidman decided not to audition for the role, even though the creative team behind the movie really wanted to see her as the traumatized Jenny. Forrest Gump ultimately became a huge success — it won eight Oscars and grossed nearly $700 million, making both Tom Hanks and Robin Wright huge stars.
Although Kidman has never spoken about her decision not to take the part in Forrest Gump, some fans argue that the rising star made the right decision, as the role was clearly not made for her. Wright, on the other hand, was simply perfect for the part, and the award-winning movie really helped the actress prove her acting chops.
It should also be noted that Kidman wasn't the first choice for the role of Jenny either, as Jodie Foster and Demi Moore were both approached before her, but both turned down the opportunity. It seems that the role was something of a turn-off for actresses at the time, as even the newcomers were not really thrilled about playing the abused character in the movie.
Of course, there's no use crying over spilled milk, as Nicole Kidman went on to achieve incredible fame in the industry, surpassing Robin Wright and, arguably, Jodie Foster and Demi Moore. As for the movie, Forrest Gump is still revered and loved to this day, and Wright's performance is a big reason for the success of this iconic film.
