The show is finally back on track.

The last few seasons of Virgin River proved to be a major disappointment for fans of the melodrama. They seemed derivative and uninspiring, making fans feel like they were watching a daytime soap opera rather than a Netflix series. However, it appears that the writers have heeded viewers' pleas and done everything they can to restore the show to its former glory.

Here are five reasons why Season 5 wasn't as bad as some claim:

Exciting Fire Episodes

Undeniably, the most significant storyline of the season was a massive forest fire that threatened the lives of everyone in Virgin River. It was refreshing to see all the characters working together for a change, especially considering how well-staged and exciting these scenes were. Furthermore, Hope finally got a chance to play the hero!

Not Much Charmaine

Fans began to resent the perpetually pregnant Charmaine the moment it was revealed that she had lied to Jack about him being the father of her unborn twins in a bid to win him back. Therefore, it was a relief when the writers decided to sideline her for Season 5, resulting in her appearing in significantly fewer scenes than in previous seasons.

Great Interpersonal Dynamics

In previous seasons, all the characters, with the exception of Jack and Mel, seemed like glorified extras. This season, they were finally given ample time to develop.

The scenes of Mel, Ava, and Brie bonding over their shared grief and the ladies discussing aging in the sauna are arguably some of the best the show has ever offered.

Thrilling New Romance

While not all fans were thrilled about Muriel and Cameron starting a relationship this season, it's undeniable that this unexpected pairing made watching the new episodes much more exciting. There's nothing quite like blossoming love to captivate viewers.

Big Cliffhanger

Though cliffhangers are generally disliked, it's evident that the writers did an excellent job revealing that Mel's real father may have been living in Virgin River all along. This revelation makes the wait for the final two episodes of Season 5, set to debut on November 30, almost unbearable.
