Fans are appalled at the writers' decision to keep Roy and Keely apart.

Apple TV's Ted Lasso has become a hugely popular show, and the exceptional chemistry between its characters is one of the biggest reasons for this success. Fans praise the series as unique for its careful approach to character development and avoiding the usual trite pitfalls of other TV comedies.

However, it seems that Ted Lasso's writers failed to maintain the quality of one particular relationship, and viewers have gotten seriously disappointed by what happened between Roy and Keely.

Here are five reasons why this storyline is a big mistake.

People hate to see the perfect couple broken up

Roy and Keely have been the biggest will-they-won't-they couple since Season 1, and fans simply loved following the dynamic between the football player and the ex-model. Everything seemed to be going extremely well for the characters, and many think the episode in which they finally became a couple was a true marvel to watch.

However, the idyll was shattered just a few episodes later when the two ended their relationship for no apparent reason. Fans hated their meaningless breakup even more because it distracted them from following other storylines.

Roy and Keely could have been role models

Roy and Keely stopped being interesting characters the moment they started dating, and fans were outraged by this, arguing that the writers could use their new love arc more wisely to show how a relationship can bring joy and change people for the better.

Viewers would be really pleased to see the beloved couple as true role models, not bland and confused characters who lost most of their former appeal.

Keeping them apart is a trite trope

Having Roy and Keely date only to break them up some time later is a very questionable decision on the part of the writers. This is a device that simply generates fans' attention to the show, making them care about the characters for a made-up reason. And for such a well-written series as Ted Lasso, that is a very cheap and disappointing tactic!

It ruined the whole season

Realizing that the whole breakup storyline is a total hoax, fans can't help but admit that Roy and Keely's split ruined the whole season for them, as it just showed how much the quality of the series' writing dropped for the current installment.

Ted Lasso is losing its audience

After Bill Lawrence stepped down from the series to focus on his new show Shrinking, Sudeikis was left as the sole showrunner of Ted Lasso, and that really hurt its quality, fans argue. Many people confess that after seeing how lackluster Season 3 has been, they're willing to switch over to watch Shrinking instead.
