If you're still unsure, these movies will help you decide whether you're with Gen Y or Gen Z.

Different people have different tastes in movies, and age is the one factor that often influences viewers' likes and dislikes. Even though they are only about a decade apart, Millennials (Gen Y) and Zoomers (Gen Z) seem to have a huge cultural gap between them, and there are many films that people of these two generations view differently.

Here are five of such controversial movies — you can use them as a test to see where you are on this generational spectrum.

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)

The sixth film of the fan-favorite franchise, Revenge of the Sith was one of the first Star Wars movies Zoomers had an opportunity to see in theaters. For many representatives of Gen Z, this was their introduction to the Jedi universe, which first sparked their love for it.

In their turn, millennials had seen a number of Star Wars movies before, and many of the long-term fans didn't appreciate Hayden Christensen as young Anakin Skywalker on his path to embracing the Dark Force and becoming Darth Vader. Neither the actor nor the film itself met the expectations Gen Y had for their beloved saga.

The Twilight Saga (2008–2012)

Although this obscenely successful franchise broke many records, grossing over $3.4 billion in box office worldwide, The Twilight Saga failed to impress Millennials, while Zoomers absolutely loved the teen drama and the love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob.

Twilight is the epitome of the vampire fantasy genre, which was extremely popular with teenage viewers of the 2000s. Millennials were a bit too old for the film series at the time, not buying the coming-of-age plot, fantastical beasts, and its CGI.

The Spy Kids (2001–2011)

A light-hearted family comedy, The Spy Kids introduced Gen Z to the spy movie genre. Apart from its unorthodox plot, the franchise delighted many Zoomers with its amazing CGI… well, it was good for the 2000s!

Millennials, however, failed to grasp the idea, as they were used to seeing more conventional spies and their serious missions.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018)

This teen drama also didn't have any success with Millennials who had long forgotten their school days by the time it was released. The timing was good for Zoomers, though, as they could still relate to the plot and sympathize with the movie's main character who was dealing with the mess caused by the love letters she wrote to her crushes.

Arrival (2015)

On the one hand, this movie about the extraterrestrial offered a different point of view on the classic plot and garnered huge popularity with Gen Z. On the other hand, it did not meet Millennials' expectations about the alien genre, as Gen Y had already had Independence Day behind them — so the bar has been raised quite high.

And the list can go on and on… But pretty soon, the new Alpha Generation are going to grow old enough to have their say! And it's likely that Zoomers, in their turn, will be seriously unimpressed with Alphas' favorite films.
