5 Most Anticipated Franchise Spin-Offs to Premiere in 2024
This year will see a slew of new installments in many popular movie franchises.
2023 was rich in high-profile premieres. And apparently, despite the devastating WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, 2024 will be no exception, as many of our beloved franchises are set to expand this year.
Here are just five of the most anticipated spinoffs set to premiere in the coming months.
Dune: Part Two (March 1)
The highly anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic space opera has been in production since the first film was released in 2021, and it's finally hitting theaters in a few days. The upcoming film will once again follow Timotheé Chalamet's Paul Atreides as he reunites with the Fremen people roaming the deserts of Arrakis to fight Baron Harkonnen, who ordered the slaughter of Paul's family.
With a budget of $190 million, the second film will be even more action-packed than the first, so get ready...
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (March 22)
The fifth film in the Ghostbusters franchise follows the Spengler family after the events of the previous installment, titled Afterlife, as they decide to move back to New York, where it all began decades ago. However, a newly discovered artifact has unleashed an ancient evil upon the world, and now the new generation of Ghostbusters and the original team must join forces to fend it off.
The movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Bill Murray and Annie Potts, among many other famous actors.
A Quiet Place: Day One (June 28)
This prequel to the mysterious and intense horror thriller series starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt is a much-needed addition to the franchise. The new film will explore how the disaster involving flesh-eating aliens that prey on anything that makes a sound began and destroyed the world as we know it. Led by Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn, this movie will answer many questions that fans of the franchise may have.
Deadpool & Wolverine (July 26)
This is probably the most anticipated release of 2024. The new Marvel movie will reunite audiences with the MCU's sassiest character, who must save the multiverse from collapse while trying to find common ground with the charismatic and grumpy Wolverine. The third film in the Deadpool leg of the MCU will see Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprise their iconic roles.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (September 6)
The sequel to the iconic 1980s horror comedy has been overdue for more than three decades, which only makes its impending release all the more exciting. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara reprise their original roles, while Willem Dafoe, Jenna Ortega and the magnificent Monica Bellucci play new characters in the new film.
Little is known about the plot of the new movie, but it's destined to be one of the biggest premieres of 2024.
