10 Naruto Powers That Could Rewrite Hunter x Hunter's Nen Rulebook
Naruto’s signature jutsu have a surprising twin in Hunter x Hunter, where Nen bends life force into similar feats — but its fiercely personal rules, not simple training, draw a sharp line between the two power systems.
I know, cross-pollinating power systems is a nerdy thought experiment, but hear me out: a surprising number of Naruto techniques would actually make sense inside Hunter x Hunter, if you run them through Nen logic. Both series are playing with the same core idea — channeling life force — but they fork in key ways. Naruto leans on teachable techniques anyone can grind out; HxH turns powers into highly personalized contracts with strict rules and costs. With that in mind, here are the Naruto moves that could exist in HxH, how they would work, and what the trade-offs would look like.
10 Naruto jutsu that could work via Nen
-
Shadow Clone Jutsu
Nen users already visualize and project aura in all sorts of shapes. Temporary body doubles made of aura? Totally plausible. They would function as solid, short-lived constructs that can swarm, feint, and confuse. The catch is cost: even in Naruto, clones drain chakra hard, so in HxH only monsters with huge reserves could spam them. Most fighters would be stuck with a handful of high-quality clones instead of a stadium full of them. -
Rasengan
This one practically screams Gon. Concentrate aura into a compact, spinning mass and release it as a single, brutal strike — that is very much in the Rock-Paper-Scissors neighborhood. The technique would be difficult for anyone below Gon-tier to stabilize and control, but with focused training, an HxH-flavored Rasengan could punch above its weight. You could even argue it might out-damage Naruto’s base version thanks to Nen’s specialization and conditions. -
Shinra Tensei
Think of it as an omni-directional aura pulse: release a sudden, spherical shockwave that repels anything in range. That maps cleanly to HxH’s emission category. The limitation is stamina and rhythm. Using it repeatedly as a mobile shield would burn through Nen fast. Used sparingly with good timing, though, it would be miserable to approach head-on. -
C4
Creepy, but doable. Combine Conjuration (to create microscopic aura constructs) with Transmutation (to give them explosive properties), disperse them in the air, and let the enemy breathe them in. We’ve seen a cousin of this in Genthru, who distributed explosive Nen effects across targets and terrain. The inside-the-body detonation twist is what makes C4 terrifying in HxH terms — a silent, inhaled setup that turns your own lungs into a minefield. -
Flying Thunder God
HxH is technical enough that a teleport-by-mark system fits right in. Pre-tag the battlefield with tiny aura seals, then jump between them near-instantly. The prep time is the point: with enough marks laid down, it becomes a surgical, fight-winning tool. Only top-tier Nen control and reserves would keep the hops stable in the heat of battle, but if you can maintain it, it’s a nightmare to fight. -
Hidden Mole Jutsu
Soften and reshape the ground with transmuted aura, then tunnel under the surface without disturbing what’s above. The hard part isn’t the digging; it’s tracking enemies while you’re blind and buried. That demands razor-precise aura sensing and a steady, continuous output underground. Pull it off, and you can launch nasty surprise attacks from below. -
Amaterasu
Naruto treats it as inextinguishable black flames. In HxH, a Transmutation/Emission specialist could mimic that function by shaping highly concentrated, heat-based aura that clings to targets and keeps burning as long as the user funds it. It would look incredible and behave brutally — more like a Nen-conditional flame that refuses to go out until the user ends it or runs dry. -
Atomic Dismantling (Particle Style)
Envision a dense, geometric aura field — say, a cuboid — that reduces matter inside it to dust at a microscopic level. That granular, rules-heavy effect is extremely HxH. The tax is enormous Nen cost and absurd control. Realistically, only apex users could maintain the field long enough to matter. Meruem or Adult Gon would nod and press the button. Most others would pass out. -
Susanoo
A giant, armored aura avatar is squarely within HxH’s wheelhouse. The price tag would be brutal, which tracks with Naruto’s chakra drain. We’ve already seen a spiritual relative: Netero’s 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva — a towering, multi-armed construct that smashes on command. Wrapping that idea in a persistent, personalized guardian shell is absolutely possible; adding elemental infusions would be flair on top. -
Shadow Possession Jutsu
Manipulation is literally a Nen category, and Illumi already controls people with needle-based conditions. Channeling aura through one’s shadow to link and puppet an opponent is a slick variant that feels perfectly in-universe. It would live or die on constraints and conditions (range, light source, time of day), but give that to a strategist like Killua and he’d make it sing.
Why this mash-up works
Both systems ride the same backbone: life force as fuel. The difference is philosophy. Naruto has broad, teachable techniques and bloodline upgrades. Hunter x Hunter personalizes everything, binding power to individual rules, costs, and creativity. That means most of these imports would end up as single-user Nen abilities with very specific conditions — but that’s exactly what would make them fun. The power ladder gets weirder, not just taller.
Quick series refresher
If you want to revisit both shows side by side: Naruto launched October 3, 2002, ran through Naruto: Shippuden until March 23, 2017, and both were animated by Studio Pierrot. On IMDb, they sit at 8.4/10 for Naruto and 8.7/10 for Shippuden. Hunter x Hunter (2011) aired from October 2, 2011 to September 24, 2014, animated by Madhouse, and it carries a 9.0/10 on IMDb. You can stream Naruto, Shippuden, and Hunter x Hunter (2011) on Crunchyroll. All previously released Naruto episodes are up there right now.
