Sophie Turner Reveals Why Game of Thrones Now Triggers Her Anxiety—even the Theme Song
House of the Dragon star throws her support behind the rising stars of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Here’s something you don’t hear every day: One of the key stars of ‘Game of Thrones’ can’t even listen to the theme song without her anxiety levels spiking. Seriously.
Who’s Got the Game of Thrones Jitters?
Sophie Turner — yeah, Sansa Stark herself — recently admitted that even years after the show wrapped, just hearing those epic drums and strings from the HBO title sequence makes her uneasy. So uneasy, in fact, that she can’t bring herself to watch anything Game of Thrones-related, including the upcoming spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
In Sophie’s own words:
If I’m totally honest, anything Game of Thrones, I don’t think I can... I can’t even hear the theme tune. It gives me like... crazy anxiety. I don’t know why. I had the best time on that show, but I can’t watch anything related to it.
She’s trying to be supportive of the new cast, though. She added that she’s 'really excited for all the actors on it' and thinks the show will probably be 'incredible because it is that universe.' She just won’t be tuning in. But, hey, at least she’ll be rooting for everyone involved from a safe, anxiety-free distance.
Would Sansa Ever Come Back?
Here’s where things get a little bit weird. Despite clearly needing a break from the Thrones world, Turner hasn’t completely shut the door on a return if one of those sequel projects gets off the ground. Her take? Well, as she put it (with a laugh): 'Show me the money.'
She admits it would be 'hard but also amazing' to come back, but she’s happy with how Sansa’s journey ended and pretty frank about how most characters drew the short straw with their finales: 'I feel that I was very happy with the way Sansa ended her story in Game of Thrones, and no one else was really happy with their ending. I feel like I got a good one, and so I don’t know if I could revisit it.'
What’s Next for Sophie Turner?
Right now, Turner’s moving on—quite literally—by suiting up as Lara Croft in the next big Prime Video series. If you haven’t seen the photos, her take on the Tomb Raider heroine draws a lot from the early video game days of Croft (shorts and all, apparently). Details for the project are mostly secret, but we do have some big casting updates:
- Sophie Turner as Lara Croft (obviously)
- Sigourney Weaver diving into the role of Evelyn Wallis—an original character for the show
- Bill Paterson (from House of the Dragon) as Lara’s butler, Winston
- Martin Bobb-Semple (Free Rein) as Zip, the tech specialist
- Jason Isaacs as Lara’s uncle, Atlas de Mornay
Amazon’s keeping the rest of the plot in a vault somewhere, but with this cast, there’s at least reason to hope something fun’s brewing.
While everyone waits to see if Turner does eventually return to Westeros (however unlikely that feels right now), at least we’ll get to watch her leap into new adventures—and probably a lot of crumbling ruins—in Tomb Raider.
