Zootopia 2 Poised to Outsell Five Nights at Freddy's in Box Office Showdown
Tracking points to a solid but softer debut for Five Nights at Freddy's 2—well below the first film and nowhere near Zootopia 2—while sidestepping a M3GAN 2.0-level flop.
Sequels have been a rollercoaster for Blumhouse this year. The company that built its name on scrappy originals went heavy on follow-ups in 2025, and the scoreboard is... uneven. The Black Phone 2 quietly turned into a legit win at $77 million domestic (a hair under the first movie’s $90 million), while M3GAN 2.0 face-planted with $24 million after the original banked $95 million. Maybe that explains why the studio is barely whispering about their spin-off SOULM8TE, which is supposedly dropping next month.
Freddy vs. Expectations
The first Five Nights at Freddy's bulldozed bad reviews and still opened to a wild $80 million, even with a same-day Peacock release. The sequel is theater-only this time, but don’t expect the same frenzy. A $35 million debut looks realistic — plenty healthy for Blumhouse (thanks to a fanbase that shows up), just without the curiosity boost that supercharged the original. Bottom line: it should still make money.
Can Zootopia 2 Keep the Top Spot?
Yep, most likely. Zootopia 2 looks steady with an estimated $50 million in its second weekend. Wicked: For Good should be right behind Freddy with around $30 million.
The Wildcard: Tarantino’s Bloody Double Feature
Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is the question mark. If you’ve never heard of it, this is the combined cut of Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 — a rarity finally getting a wider run. Cool cinephile event, but in terms of raw box office, I’m slotting it around $8 million and a likely fifth-place finish.
Anime Keeps Winning
GKIDS has another one primed to pop: Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution is tracking at about $12 million for the weekend. Anime’s theatrical streak is real, and this should keep that momentum going.
